We need funds to make sure that traumatically bereaved and seriously harmed families get the support, information and mentoring needed to lobby for meaningful change in services.

We work with families affected by or bereaved by suicide, mental health homicides, and adults with learning disabilities who have been neglected and/or mistreated in health and care. We know that such families are isolated, and that the complex grief we experience is little understood.
We bring traumatically bereaved families together to support them to help health and care organisations to learn from the deaths of their loved ones.
Support Us Through GoodHub
Any amount, however small, will help us reach this goal. Regular financial support strengthens our ability to plan, so if you can give a regular amount, that really helps.
GoodHub provides a secure platform for donations, including regular monthly gifts or one-off support, helping us continue this essential work. It also collects gift aid for us if you are a UK taxpayer.
Why We Are Raising Money
Making Families Count is entering a crucial period of growth, expanding our network of traumatically bereaved families and strengthening our structures that enable them to influence health and care systems.
We are seeking funds to develop and deliver specialist online peer support and training for traumatically bereaved people to help them become confident, to work collaboratively with health care organisations to improve learning and safety.
The families we work with express a strong desire to improve services and prevent harm. Our approach provides safe, structured opportunities to do this which supports their own wellbeing; provides an opportunity to create a legacy in their loved one’s memory; reduces their risk of suicide; improves NHS services and patient safety; and helps to reduce stigma around suicide and mental illness.
Impact – How Your Donation Helps
Your donation supports us to:
- Reduce isolation and increase peer connection through monthly online meetings for traumatically bereaved families, improving emotional wellbeing.
- Develop and offer training and information to families about how the NHS works, so that they can be most effective in influencing learning and change.
- Build a national network of trained and supported lived-experience family experts who can drive change and improvements in care.
These activities help families influence learning after harm, strengthen their confidence, to create safer, more compassionate health and care leaders and systems.
