Life Beyond the Cubicle – Training the Trainers

While guidance promotes family involvement, practice often falls short. These co-created eLearning resources are proven to help clinicians work more effectively with family carers to improve care and prevent harm.
In this session, you’ll become an expert in using the six interactive modules and the accompanying Training Guide. We’ll explore effective facilitation techniques for adult learners and tackle how to address common barriers clinicians face, like managing confidentiality and assumptions.

Making Families Count (MFC) is building a movement of families and friends who have been traumatically bereaved or affected by serious harm within health and care services—including circumstances of neglect, medical errors, suicide, or homicide by someone who was mentally ill.

Confidentiality is often viewed as a barrier to involving family and friends during a mental health crisis. However, a failure to engage with families is frequently cited in serious incident investigations. This interactive course will help you navigate the complexities of information sharing to improve patient safety.
Based on the “Life Beyond the Cubicle“ project, this session addresses common misconceptions about confidentiality. You will explore practical ways to work collaboratively with patients and their families, understanding the crucial differences between information gathering and information sharing.
Through real-world case studies and scenarios, we will examine the legal framework and best practices for balancing confidentiality with the need to keep patients, families, and the public safe. You will leave with the confidence and skills to foster better working relationships, ensuring families are heard and supported.

Safety Planning: Working Well with Family Carers of People Experiencing Acute Mental Health Crises

This interactive course will provide you with the practical skills to implement this safer, more hopeful approach by working effectively with patients and their families.
Too often, patients are discharged with safety plans that haven’t involved their family carers, leaving loved ones feeling unheard and unequipped to help. This session directly addresses that gap.
